His body is warm. Far too warm. His eyes hurt as if he were staring straight into the sun for hours on end even though the oil lamps on the walls was burning low.

Master and Mister's breathing at his back are light, telling him that they're asleep, unaware of how tight his throat felt and how he was running a fever. He didn't want them to worry so that was good. He'd be fine with some rest anyway, he had felt similar lethargy and ache in his body before and overcome it. That was what life had been like before he ended up with Master. In the morning he would be just fine, so there was no need to worry anyone. Ah.. The thought came to his mind as he curled into himself, and he squeezed his eyes shut against the blinding light of the lamps. Mistress will be upset if she finds out I'm hiding it.. He should tell, but he doesn't want to needlessly cause worry. Master Zen, Mister Mitsuhide and Miss Kiki were all going back to the castle soon and he didn't want to sour the spirit of their vacation.

Though Mister had done his own part in that, with his rejecting Miss Kiki's asking for his hand in marriage.

He chuckled to himself. He never thought that he would think of things like how stupid someone was for rejecting another when they so clearly reciprocated, not from such a close distance-

His quiet chuckle turned a little bitter, and it ached in his chest. Someone like him, being concerned about something like that.

Obi had never thought that he, after everything that he had done, after all the terrible things that he had done to other people, would ever get to feel the sort of warmth connected to what other people would probably call a family. Sure he was running a fever right now so maybe the heat was only that but - he swallowed and it was hard to do so, as if he had tears in his throat though he didn't - something like a prince for a master, or getting to fight side by side with some of the most noble people in the realm, something like being knighted by a king, something like becoming best friends - probably - with a court pharmacist, basically adopting another as some sort of mix between brother and son, falling for the two most important people in the world-in his world-falling for anyone at all in the first place. This luck would run out, sooner or later. He would probably cause them all misfortune in the end, just by finding them all important. Somebody from his past might find out about his current position, or he would fail his duty again like he had wen Itoya and Kazuki and then Umihebi stole away Mistress and, and-

He could see it in front of him, all too clearly. Betrayed expressions, empty expressions, dead expressions. He had done far too many terrible things before his leash passing into Master's hands for things to end well- and they would be so disappointed with him when they realized that he was no better than when they first met him, that he was way worse than that.

Delirious, he was. Now or normally? Both, maybe. He was so incredibly hot. His body ached all the way into his bones.

Blinking at the bright light of the night outside the windows, the sound of snow and wind whipping against the glass, and it was the most strenuous effort to raise his hands to rub his hands over his face.

He froze mid-motion, staring with shock at his arms. These marks were different from bruises. Reminiscent of them, but not the same. He had been beaten bruised and battered within an inch of his life before and he had seen the bruises on his skin then- they were without a doubt different. No bruises, fresh or healing, looked this way. "Mister!" he called out, sharp as he could through his painful throat and lethargy, and both Master and Mister reacted instantly to his voice, the alarm in it. In the light, his sensitive eyes couldn't catch every movement as they should be able to, but he sought out Mister's face and met his gaze.

Understanding passed between them, an urgency to protect and Mister Mitsuhide dragged Master out of the room, telling him that they had to wake Shirayuki.

Mistress Shirayuki's voice went from calm to alarmed, when she realized that it seemed to be bad and he hated the distress in the voices of the people that he cared so much about. He had really thought it was just a fever- Passing out as the fever became far too high was a blessing but the worry that any of them might contract whatever he had from him made him sick to his stomach even as the darkness took him.
