Other Characters: Butch Cassidy (Drifters), D2 (Alive: The Final Evolution)
Character Information
Name: Obi
Canon: Akagami no Shirayukihime
Canon Point: Chapter 39
Age: 22~23-ish
History: Since the wikia is so not up to date on him, I've typed up the most important parts over here. It goes beyond the chosen canon point, so you don't need to read the whole thing. Maybe only around half of it.
Personality: Obi is a very polite person. That is, he calls people by honorifics and speaks to people politely even if he doesn’t like someone. Especially when it comes to strangers. He’s a bit more relaxed around people that he knows, but he’ll still call them “miss” or “mister”. He may, though, still insult people that he dislikes, even if he does so while remaining fairly polite. There is only one person this far that he’s told “go get your overly long scarf caught somewhere and get strangled” but Mihaya gives back just as good as he gets, it’s just the way their relationship works. He started to dislike Mihaya as much as he does from seeing how his master Zen reacted to him, and decided that Mihaya was an enemy. He doesn’t see him as an enemy as much as before, but they still have their issues with each other.
He will rarely be rude to anyone unless they are a threat to somebody that he cares about - or if they happen to be Mihaya - although he will joke around and act less serious a lot of times. He’s very comfortable among the Mountain Lions, for example, once the ordeal with them kidnapping Shirayuki was resolved. They’re a lot like him, free-spirited and independent and not very fond of nobles. Thugs is more his crowd than nobility is, even if he can pretend.
He exudes an aura of “danger”, according to people with half the keen sense he has, and though he has that dangerous side of him hidden most of the time in favor of the easygoing, cheerful dork that he lets show most of the time, there are times when he will shed that front and scare even the most dangerous outlaws with just a glare. He’s not somebody that anyone would actually want as an enemy. If he was actually serious about killing someone tho, they would never notice him and they would be dead before they had a chance to even see his shadow. He’s not a gentleman, though he’s good at acting like one, and if anybody threatened his Mistress or his Master, he would not be afraid of killing them, no matter who they might be.
His way of never referring to anyone by only their name (save for people from his assassin days, like Torou) is not only a way to remain polite, but also a way to keep himself at least a little distant. He doesn’t want to grow attached to people, because before he came to serve Zen, he never stayed for long and there was no guarantee that the people that he met and “befriended” or worked for wouldn’t die soon, either by natural causes or by being killed in one way or another - sometimes by him. He never intended to stay long with Zen either, to be honest, but things happened and he’s still serving him to this day. Still, he keeps calling him and the others by anything but only their names, and for some reason none of them has commented on it even though Zen doesn’t want to be called by honorifics by the other people close to him. He supposes that it means that he’s not as important, and that’s fine, it’s nothing he didn’t expect anyway.
Because he has a bit of a problem in seeing himself as a person of worth. He has always been a tool, that’s what people in the mercenary/assassin trade are to the people who hire them. When he was caught by Kiki and Mitsuhide, after Haruka had hired him to scare Shirayuki out of the castle, he willingly told Shirayuki and Zen that he was the one who had faked an order from Zen and had shot an arrow at her within the castle. Not because he felt any responsibility, but because he expected Haruka to throw him under the bus and use him to get off scot-free. He was very surprised when Haruka took full responsibility, but it was easy for him to know that he wasn’t trying to protect Obi, because of course not, nobody has ever done that, but because Haruka has some very weird sort of pride thing going on. And Obi is constantly surprised and thrown off guard, when people act as if they care for his well-being or about his wishes and thoughts as a person. He’s getting used to it a little, after the few years he’s now been working for Zen, but he’s still far too used to not being treated like someone with worth or even as a person.
At first he chose to call Zen his Master and serve him out of amusement, because he thought Shirayuki was interesting in how she had not been scared off by the arrow that he had shot, and because he wanted to see how a prince would change from her friendship, but eventually he found himself actually growing fond of those people he works with, and he treats Ryuu like a little brother, Kiki and Mitsuhide as friends, and Zen and Shirayuki as well, though he has admitted to Zen that he likes the both of them--if Zen understood that he meant in a romantic way is another question, but he felt that being by Shirayuki’s side for years without Zen being there without telling him would be unfair. But for all his feelings regarding his Master and his Mistress, he won’t pursue those feelings. Because he knows that the two of them cares a lot about each other and he supports their love for one another. And it’s not like either of them would ever love him back, anyway, right?
Abilities: All those ninja skills. Those that aren't magical techniques; so super fast running, moving through trees, balancing on things, and that sort of stuff. Nimble and agile in an elegant cat-like way, very skilled assassin, can leap far and fast, and climb well, runs really fast, and fights really, really well both with and without weapons (knives, swords, bow and arrow, you name it. He has heightened senses, excellent night vision, and is great at noticing even subtle changes. He's also an excellent cook and good at singing. He's also good at horseback riding and it seems he can even ride while sleeping. He can tell when the weather will change before it does. He has really fast reflexes and is even trained to counter arrows. Generally friendly with animals. He can also pick locks and knows other tricks that will get him into places without going noticed.
Strengths: Friendly, adaptable, quick, polite, witty.
Weaknesses: Distant, mistrusting, flighty, withholds the truth, self-deprecating.
God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: A whim. Actually I was intending to app him as a god, which is why the samples set in the game are played that way but, I changed my mind and want to play him as a shinki for the time being. It'll be interesting to play him with another Master.
Cause Of Death: Instead of an illness that can be cured, the Olin Mars caused a deadly disease. Obi caught it, just as he caught the original illness, but was slightly late in getting the cure so he died painfully from the disease. I'll write the edited scene in his journal.
Vessel: Trench knives.
Name Location: Upper left arm.
Power: Gravity Manipulation: Changing the way something/someone is affected by gravity, to make it/them unable to move, or to make it/them float, such things.
Writing Sample
Sample: have a few from where i played him at a game on ij. and here's one thread on dreamwdith. if you'd like to make sure that it's the same player for both accounts, both hmd's have the same contact info in them. here is a toplevel from your test drive. Here, here, here, here, are tagouts on it.
Other
Anything Else?: He would prefer to be with a god who has at least one oother shinki, but that's just him. I'll go for him ending up as the Exemplare, just as much.
